NEW DELHI: Congress said that the BJP government discontinued interest subvention scheme surreptitiously in 2017-18 but was forced to restore it following pressure from the party as well as farmers' agitation.
The party said that the UPA government had originally announced the scheme in the 2006-07 budget. "BJP government sur reptitiously discontinued the `Interest Subvention Scheme' with effect from the year 2017 18. Post the cold-blooded murder of six farmers in MP and an all-India agitation by farmers seeking debt relief, the government has hurriedly called a Cabinet meeting to reintroduce the scheme," AICC spokesman Randeep Surjewala said. He said, "Instead of claiming credit, BJP should apologise to the people for surreptitiously doing away with the `Interest Subvention Scheme'."
